Bring It On

Peoria Players Theatre Youth Theatre
August 3-6

Peoria Players Summer Youth Theatre returns to the stage for their 21st Annual Production with this year’s show: Bring It On The Musical.

This high-flying, energetic musical premiered at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia in January 2011 before moving on to a national tour from November 2011 to June 2012 and then finally transferring to Broadway for a limited run from August 2012 to December 2012.

Bring It On: The Musical features music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (of Hamilton, In the Heights, and Moana fame), Tom Kitt, and Amanda Green, with book by Jeff Whitty. The show follows Campbell Davis, a senior at Truman High School, where she’s been named captain of the cheerleading squad, but an unexpected redistricting has forced her to spend her senior year at the neighboring hard-knock Jackson High School where there is a talented dance crew, but no cheerleading squad. Campbell befriends the dance crew, including their stubborn and hardworking leader, Danielle, and manages to form a powerhouse squad for the ultimate competition: the National Championships.

Bring It On includes a cast of 40 ranging from ages 14-20 with cast members commuting as far as Bloomington and Lewistown. The cast includes: Lindsey France as Campbell, CeCe Hill as Danielle, Lance Heffner as Randall, Sammie Roberts as Eva, Morgan Cowen as Bridget, Kailee Ash-Ray as Skylar, Shawn Foote as Kylar, Caleb Johnson as Steven, Ryann Piker as Nautica, Sage Brown as La Cienega, Andrew Loy as Cameron, Gardner Brown as Twig, rounding out the ensemble (as featured roles) are: Noah Webber (Cross the Line Soloist), Tara Kunkel (Legendary Soloist/Abigail), Maddy Hoskins (Morgan), Kay Michelet (Jewel), Lauren Dalton (Lindsay), Madi Fisher (Justine), Emma Garcia (Jasmine), Kaitlyn Dixon (Raquel), Carly Davis (Ms. Downs), Hannah Gross (Serafine), Eli Eveland (Lucian), Nate Elder (Petey), Stephaney Haines (Whitt), Darraugh Griffin (Brooklyn), Spencer Warfield (Mills), Miles McGill (Carter), Kayla Breitbarth, Leilany Cabell, Alex George, Mackenzie Gibler, Anna Hsu, Katelynn Koppel, Sara Montgomery, Alexys Ogorek, Delaney Petersen, Ryann Pugh, Olivia Saver, and Rebekah Waters.

“I was a cheerleader in high school. When I saw Bring It On on tour and then subsequently on Broadway I knew I had to bring this show to life in the area,” says Nyk Sutter, who directs the show along with long-time friend and a familiar face in Peoria theatre, Sandra Iadipaolo. “I knew this wasn’t going to be an easy show by any means so I quickly asked Sandra to join me on this ride.”

“I’ve never directed before,” says Sandra Iadipaolo, “but I couldn’t be more grateful and excited for this incredible journey. These kids have worked so hard and they’re hungry for the success they know this show will bring.”

Sutter says “We’ve put the cast through the physical ringer. When you do a show about a National Championship winning cheerleading squad stunting, pyramids, choreography, and tumbling are major and integral components of the show so that’s been an additional layer that 99% of other shows don’t have.”

“We’ve assembled an incredible Production Staff that’s helping us bring this show to life,” says Iadipaolo. The Production Staff includes Music Direction by Maggie Sloter, Choreography by Mariah Aberle, Shawn Foote, and Kailee Ash-Ray, Stage Management by Liz Scoville and Rebekah Dentino, Costumes by Amy Sanders, Lighting Design by Wayne Carey, Sound Design by Eli Mundy, Hair and Makeup Design by Ashleigh Feger, Rehearsal Accompaniment by Dana Sloter, Multimedia Design by Brady Varwig, and Prop Design by Theresa Black and Kristin Whitaker.

Come see this explosive display of human fireworks on August 3-6, 2017 at Peoria Players Theatre. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for those 20 and younger. Call 688-4473 or visit www.peoriaplayers.org
