Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike
Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike
Corn Stock Theatre
June 23 - July 1

Eric Ewan returns to the Director’s chair at the Tent for this comedy, after last summer’s successful run of The Spitfire Grill.  A long-time local performer, and director of three previous Corn Stock shows, Eric also lends his considerable talents to designing and painting the sets for his own shows, and is often called in to paint for other local directors.

This is the 23rd season that Eric has been painting the ‘front billboard’ to advertise the show in the park.

That’s 5 billboards per season, for a total of 115 billboards. Each billboard is 8 feet wide by 4 feet tall, and each one takes about 4-5 hours to paint. Eric designs each one to highlight and capture the true essence of the show.

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is the winner of the 2013 Tony Award for best play.  Written by Christopher Durang, the story revolves around a trio of siblings whose professor parents named them after characters in the Chekov plays.  This middle-aged trio is full of resentments and regrets that lead to hilarious confrontations but ultimately reconciliations and hope for their futures.  The playwright says he used Chekov as a “jumping off point” and that audiences don’t have to be a student of Chekhov to enjoy this play or see themselves in the characters and will laugh along with Chekhov fans just as much.

The cast includes Karl Augspurger, Trish Ballard, Cody Cornwell, Rebekah Dentino, Gale Thetford, and Anna Oxborrow.

Performances run Friday, June 23 through Saturday, July 1 beginning at 7:30 pm each night Tickets are $17 for adults and $14 for students and are available by calling 309-676-2196 or online at
