Legally Blonde

Legally Blonde
Peoria Players Theatre
August 4 - 7

Peoria Players is proud to present the 20th annual Summer Youth Theatre! Originating in 1997 with the production of Grease, our Summer Youth Theatre has been a popular tradition among this area's younger performers. This creative outlet has helped develop and nurture the talents of teens between the ages of 14 and 20. Our 2016 production is no exception -- Trevor Neff directs Legally Blonde The Musical! This fabulously fun musical, packed with exciting singers and dancers, is based on the 2001 movie starring Reese Witherspoon. When a blonde sorority queen is dumped by her boyfriend, she follows him to Harvard Law School to get him back and quickly realizes she has more legal savvy than she imagined.

Although they are young adults, the cast members of Legally Blonde have extensive theater credits. Having performed in productions at our local theaters and while at school, these talents are no stranger to the stage. Kailee Ash plays the lead of Elle Woods with style and flair. Although she is new to the Peoria Players stage, Kailee has many theatrical credits under her belt. She performed in Footloose and as the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Our production staff features performers and artists with impressive resumes, as well. Director Trevor Neff most recently starred as Edna Turnblad in our production of Hairspray. Having his Bachelor’s Degree in Production/Design in Theater, he has also directed at the Corn Stock Winter Playhouse. Our Music Directors, Kari Kapps and Amy Thomason have also been very active in local theater. Kari is a graduate of Illinois State University with a Masters of Music in Collaborative Piano and a 2014 alumna of Bradley University, while Amy holds a degree in Music Business from Bradley University.

Legally Blonde is lucky to have 3 very experienced choreographers! Hayley Salmon trained at the Illinois Ballet and the Peoria Ballet under Mary Price Boday and Eric Yetter. After studying at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, she danced in workshops in New York and Paris. Kathryn Hollandsworth, who has attended and studied at summer programs throughout the United States, is an alumna of the Peoria Ballet Academy, where she has been teaching for seven years. Brandon Hudson, who is originally from Pekin but now resides in New York City, has been seen on Broadway in Hamilton: An American Musical, in the Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat National Tour and the West Side Story International Tour. His other credits include Diplo/Gwen Stefani, Cizing it up with Sean T., Mia Michaels’ Lost Boys, and most recently one of the faces for Estee Lauders Men’s Skin Care line, spotlighted on the Men of Broadway.
