Corn Stock Theatre
July 15 - 23

Corn Stock Theatre is delighted to continue its 63rd Summer Season with its third show Seussical. Though Seussical’s junior edition has been an area favorite at local children’s theatres and middle schools, audiences at Corn Stock can expect to see mostly adults in the full version of this family-friendly hit opening on July 15.

Combining many of Dr. Seuss’s beloved stories, Seussical follows Jojo (Kaden Micklos), a young dreamer with a wild imagination, and his many adventures with The Cat in the Hat (Josh Hammond). Micklos and Hammond set the tone for the evening with their joyful, energetic performances. Throughout the show, The Cat in the Hat introduces Jojo to familiar Seussian characters and settings, teaching Jojo many important lessons about imagination, acceptance, and friendship along the way. Seussical’s musical score is full of gems like “Oh, the Thinks You Can Think,” “It’s Possible,” “Alone in the Universe,” “Amayzing Mayzie,” “Notice Me, Horton,” and “How Lucky You Are.”

Director Peggy Breaux Hupp has assembled a stellar cast of over eighty performers to bring Seussical to life. In the Jungle of Nool, Thomas Deters (Horton the Elephant) and Jessie Pilcher Hinrichsen (Gertrude McFuzz) shine in their heartfelt songs, and Mariah Thornton Aberle (Mayzie LaBird) and Jasmyne Providence (the Sour Kangaroo) add flair to their larger-than-life musical numbers. In Whoville, Greg Blume and Jill Tracey (Mr. and Mrs. Mayor) bring sincerity to their respective characters. In addition to these standout performances, the entire ensemble bursts with excitement as Jungle animals, citizens of Whoville, performers in the Circus McGurkus, and more.

The production team of Seussical has succeeded in tackling this massive show. Peggy Breaux Hupp’s direction drives the show forward, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. Music Director Nick Brockamp has created a beautiful sound both vocally and instrumentally, and Choreographer Danny Fisher has brought the music to life with exciting, stylized dances. Costumer Sarah Blume shows off her range of ability with costumes to feature 80+ diverse, whimsical characters. To complement the vision of the production, equally imaginative makeup, hair, set, props, lighting, and sound designs round out the artistic and technical elements.

Audiences are sure to leave Seussical humming its catchy melodies, reminded that “a person’s a person, no matter how small” and “anything’s possible.” Seussical runs July 15-23, with performances at 7:30 pm nightly at 1700 N Park Road, Peoria. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students, and they are available at the box office, by phone at 309-676-2196, or online at
